Running

Summer

Sorry for the hiatus on the running front. I have been taking a break from the training aspect of running. I also have been feeling a bit of the post marathon blues. I want to capitalize on my good result at the Calgary Marathon this year. Yet, the timing with my work schedule and other commitments has not aligned for me to run any other races this summer. Not being signed up in race has left me somewhat unmotivated to follow a training plan.

Not to say that I do not have goals for the rest of and next season. I do have big goals for the up coming season. I am unquestionably inspired to try to qualify for Boston in April/May 2020. My mom recently qualified and will be running in this year race 2020! Amazing! So proud of her and so excited for her! Not only did she qualify for Boston which is incredible but she has also been battling injuries since the last time she qualified and couldn’t run due to injury. I can not wait to see her run in April. My mom has stated she is hopes to re-qualify in Boston- she hoping we can do it together in 2021. My mom has always been a major influence in my running and it would truly make running Boston even more special if we could do it together. The pressure is on to qualify this year!

Okay so shouldn’t I be super motivated to be running every day with this big goal ahead of me ? Well I keep telling myself that yet the overall drive to run isn’t quite there. There is a lot of pressure I put on myself for this goal, it is something I really want. To achieve it, I still have big jump in decreasing my marathon time; I know its realistic goal just very tough one. The goal is to focus on improving my half marathon time; through longer tempos and speed work outs. This should transfer to improving my overall speed in the marathon. I found and I am now planning on running a half marathon at the end of October. In the late fall and early winter I want to work on my strength and maintaining half marathon distance. I want to go into marathon training season as strong as possible and not burnt out.

In the mean time, I am starting to get back into regular running routine. I have been doing more casual fun runs such trail running. Overall focusing on how I feel rather than specific pace for the next month; avoiding the pressure of a training cycle. It is the summer after all and there are so many activities that I love doing apart from running. Not enough hours in the day, especially if you have work and do other less fun activities.

Worry less, run more!
