Running on Vacation

While I was on vacation in Costa Rica I was lucky enough to find the time to a workout and get a couple runs in with my husband. I was on vacation, why would I want to workout? Because I love it. Yep you read that right. I want to run while on my vacation! To me a vacation is about getting time to relax, recenter and find your inner peace. Running is one of the best ways for me to achieve that. (L)

Vacations are often busy and filled with activities. Finding the time to get a run/workout in might be hard, but no harder than any other day. The idea of running in every country I go to has become a goal, one that I continue for my whole life and be able say yes I ran there! It is this hope/goal I use the extra the push to get out there at least once on vacation. The morning Jake and I went for our first beach run we both woke up thinking we would rather sleep in, yet we both thought well it is not everyday we get to run on beach in December. Once we were out running we felt much better; okay let me rephrase that we felt much after we cooled in the pool post run. I love the quiet moments of running. Focusing on only the beauty of what surrounds me, the rhythm of your breath and the feeling the strength of my body pushing physical limits. When my mind slows down I feel whole and recharged.

Remembering why you do something, the way it makes you feel is often all you need to take the first step out the door, the rest just flows naturally.

While on my trip to Costa Rica, my husband and I had some down time one afternoon  so we planned a little team workout around our treehouse. We did the workout without a gym so we had to get a little creative We used our own body weight, the treehouse we were staying at and a little bit of imagination. We also went for two beach runs during the second half of the vacation. Each of our runs was short, no more than 45minutes but it was enough to recharge .

As my husband says “It’s my vacation too Megan” – I will modify it slightly by saying Your vacation is your vacation: spend it doing the things that make you feel alive, recharge your body and mind and keep your soul burning.
